JEDI Council
The Ohio State University College of Engineering’s vision is to be the leader in the discovery, innovation, and education in engineering and architecture among public land grant universities.
The JEDI Mission is to support the Dean and senior leadership in identifying actionable activities to advance the University's mission, vision, and values; monitoring the progress of COE's strategic priorities; and recommending promising practices to promote an equitable environment where everyone thrives, embraces diversity as a strength, and empowers all members of the college community through education.
Leveraging the Inclusive Excellence framework, the council will have three primary focus areas:
- Accountability (Access and Success/Institutional Infrastructure): Collaborate with departmental and unit-level inclusive excellence councils and diversity committees to review and assess current COE/KSA and department action plans and track the progress of strategic plans in Foundation 1 and Pillar 1.
- Dissemination (Education and Scholarship/Culture, Climate and Community Building): explore and promote formal and informal learning (ex., inclusive pedagogy, workshops, seminars, professional and development) that fosters an inclusive, welcoming environment and engages all members of our community in learning that is meaningful, relevant, and accessible.
- Student Experience: review and provide feedback on college and department strategic plans to enhance the undergraduate and graduate student experience. This will be a subcommittee made up of graduate and undergraduate student organization leaders (JEDIs).
We comprised a group of passionate and committed students, staff and faculty to serve as guardians of peace and justice, able to use light (knowledge) to connect all things in the Universe for the greater good (everyone thrives). Although JEDI is a fictional character, the work they do in the College of Engineering is very real.
