Graduate Student Alumni and Peer Mentoring Program

The College of Engineering Graduate Student Alumni and Peer Mentoring Program (GUIDE) aims to build meaningful connections between our mentees and alumni or peer mentors who will help guide students through their career and professional exploration or first year of graduate study. GUIDE provides a unique opportunity for mentors to support the success and retention of our graduate students.

Alumni Mentoring Program

Currently enrolled graduate students are matched with an alumni mentor whose background and experiences align with the student’s professional interests. Students will meet with their alumni mentor at least once a month during the academic year (August-April). Alumni mentors serve as a resource by sharing their professional and personal experience and expertise. We encourage our alumni mentors to provide students with career and personal development advice as well as guidance on getting the most out of their graduate studies.

Who can be an alumni mentor?

Alumni mentors are graduates of the Ohio State College of Engineering's master’s or doctoral programs. Volunteering as a mentor is a great way to make an impact and stay connected with the Buckeye Engineering, Knowlton School of Architecture and Ohio State community. Who can be an alumni mentee?

Mentees are current graduate students (master’s or PhD) in the College of Engineering who are looking to explore future career opportunities and gain professional insight as they consider career paths and job placement after graduation. Mentees are invested in growing professionally and are open to learning new skills and expanding their professional network. Learn about being an alumni mentee.

Peer Mentoring Program

First-year graduate students (MS and PhD) are matched with a peer mentor during their first year of study. Peer mentors serve as a resource by providing both personal and professional support to their mentee. Our peer mentors serve as a helping hand or sounding board and can easily refer their mentees to helpful resources across campus.

Who can be a peer mentor?

Peer mentors are current upper level (2nd year or higher) graduate students in the College of Engineering who are committed to their graduate student community and want to support the success of new graduate students. Volunteering as a peer mentor is an invaluable opportunity to grow your mentoring and leadership skills. Learn about being a peer mentor.

Who can be a peer mentee?

Peer mentees are new (first-year) graduate students in the College of Engineering who are looking for guidance as they transition into graduate studies at Ohio State. Mentees are committed to learning about resources and opportunities from their mentor and want to grow their peer network. Learn about being a peer mentee.
