PREFACE 2023 Cohort

The Pre First-year Academic and Career Engagement (PREFACE) Program is designed to support students through the academic, social, and personal transitions from high school to college, and empower their persistence to graduation through on-going resources, programs, and opportunities.

The PREFACE Program prides itself on providing students early and continuous support throughout their undergraduate experience at Ohio State. There are many advantages for selected participants in the PREFACE program.

  • Academic and personal consultations to help navigate their undergraduate education and post graduate endeavors

  • Intentional activities that will increase academic performance and persistence

  • Institutional practices that cultivate students’ STEM sense-of-belonging and engineering identity
  • Exposure to interdisciplinary engineering studies and career professions
  • Peers, staff, faculty, alumni and industry professionals eager to assist in students’ success

If you have any questions, please email Ronald Parker, PhD at

The PREFACE program is open to all incoming College of Engineering students.

PREFACE Testimonials

Elijah Thomas
Industrial and Systems Engineering, '25
PREFACE provide tips and experiences that most first years wouldn't know until mistakes were made. This was a great opportunity to meet new people and build a strong foundation early.
Nina Moore
Civil Engineering, '21
Building relationships with the staff was honestly so crucial for my development. I went on a study abroad with Dr. Paris the following spring, and was constantly in the CARE office, getting help or just being able to have a safe space to go.
Percy Lipsey
Mechanical Engineering, '00
It gave me the opportunity to forge a valuable network of relationships, build friendships and meet peers of similar interests. I have covered many facets of Engineering during my career, in Manufacturing, Research & Development, Quality, and Operations.
