Parthasarathy named AAIA Fellow

Posted:

Computer Science and Engineering Professor Srinivasan Parthasarathy has been named a fellow of the Asia Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) for contributions to data mining and graph representation learning.

Incorporated in 2021 in Hong Kong, the AAIA is a non-profit organization which aims to promote research, development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in a wide variety of fields.

Srinivasan Parthasarathy

Parthasarathy directs Ohio State’s Data Mining Research Laboratory, which is a part of the High End Systems Group and affiliated with the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Research. His group’s research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health and several industry sponsors. He helped found and co-directs the Data Analytics major at Ohio State and also co-leads the Responsible Data Science Community of Practice as part of the Translational Data Analytics Institute leadership team.

Parthasarathy’s contributions in data mining include the development of the ECLAT family of algorithms – a precursor to the current emphasis on column-oriented database systems designs – for association analysis in the late nineties. He was among the pioneers to enhance the locality of various frequent pattern mining algorithms while facilitating incremental, compressed and parallel analysis. He has designed award-winning novel architecture-conscious data structures and tiling strategies to enhance chip utilization and out-of-core performance on both single node systems as well as cluster systems.

His work on graph representation learning (GRL) includes the development of the one-of-a-kind MILE framework, a novel approach that explicitly account for outliers with downstream applications for flood mapping from satellite imagery, and systematic benchmarking efforts that consolidate GRL progress and provide directions for future research.

Last December, Parthasarathy joined the distinguished ranks of Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow for his contributions to high performance data mining and network analysis.
