Betty Lise Anderson and Paul Berger, professors in electrical and computer engineering, were named Senior Members of the Optical Society of America.

Leonard Brillson, professor, electrical and computer engineering and physics, was selected as one of 10 American Competitiveness and Innovation Fellows for 2010 by the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research. Brillson received the fellowship, which includes funding for research, for establishing the optical signature of a leading defect in zinc, opening the way to monitor and study processes that promote p-type conductivity, a major objective in semiconductor optoelectronics.

Steve Gordon, professor, city and regional planning, and senior director of education and client support, Ohio Supercomputer Center, was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Robert Gustafson, director of the Engineering Education Innovation Center and professor of food, agricultural and biological engineering, received the Massey Ferguson Educational Gold Medal, the highest educational award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

John C. Lippold, professor, materials science and engineering, received the Arata Award, the most prestigious scientific award from the International Institute of Welding.

Carolyn Merry, professor and chair, civil and environmental engineering and geodetic science, was sworn in as president of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

Jack Nasar, professor, city and regional planning, received the Environmental Design Research Association Achievement Award for Designing for Designers: Lessons Learned from Schools of Architecture, a book he edited with Wolfgang Preiser and Tom Fisher.

Mohammad Samimy, professor, mechanical engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Physical Society for outstanding contributions to the physical understanding and control of high-speed and high Reynolds number free shear flows via developing and using novel control techniques and advanced laser based flow diagnostics.

Fernando L. Teixeira, associate professor, ElectroScience Laboratory, received the Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Microwave Theory and Techniques Society.

James Williams, professor, materials science and engineering, received the 2010 H.R. “Russ” Ogden Award from the ASTM International Committee B10 Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys for outstanding technical and industrial contributions to the reactive or refractory metals industry.
