Architecture Alumnus Chosen as Commencement Speaker

Curtis J. Moody, president and CEO of Columbus-based Moody•Nolan architectural firm, was the speaker for Ohio State’s winter commencement in the Schottenstein Center. Approximately 2,000 students received degrees during the ceremony.

Moody, who earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Ohio State in 1973, has served as principal architect for notable campus buildings, including the new Ohio Union, the Jerome Schottenstein Center, the Recreational and Physical Activities Center, and the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Moody began his architectural practice in 1982 in Columbus. The award-winning architectural designer has been involved in the design of projects that exceed several billion dollars in construction over the last 37 years. He has led the firm to becoming the largest minority-owned architectural firm in the nation.

Moody played for the Ohio State’s varsity basketball team from 1971-1973. He has taken his love for athletics and become a leader in the design of sports and recreation facilities for many cities, colleges and universities.

His many projects in Columbus include the Ohio Statehouse renovation, the Port Columbus Airport expansion, Gowdy Field North, the Center for Science and Industry (COSI), the East High School renovation and the Smith Brothers Hardware renovation.
