Student Organizations
Many students enhance their academic career by becoming involved in student project teams, honor societies, and other organizations. These activities can provide leadership opportunities, hands-on engineering experience and a chance to meet other engineering students.
Project Teams
Aero Design Team
Students in competition design and construct a small radio-controlled aircraft capable of lifting many times its weight. With a fixed wing size, the design goal is to lift off from a given runway length carrying the maximum weight, and land safely. The performance score, coupled with the predicted results determine the final champion.
Baja Buckeyes
The purpose of the team is to design, construct, test, and race a prototype four wheeled, single-seat, off-road ATV vehicle powered by a Briggs Stratton 10-hp engine. The project provides hands on experience in areas such as computer-aided design and manufacturing, finite element modeling and analysis, welding, machining, human resource management, and fiscal management.
Big Beam Team
Students design, construct, and test a prestressed concrete beam. The competition is organized by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI).
Bio-Environmental Design Team
BEDT is a student project team that designs, tests, and builds biological and environmental engineering systems. The team competes in the national ASAE Gunlogson Environment Design Contest. Team members learn the fundamental principals of biological and environmental engineering through hands on experience.
Biomolecular Student Design Team
The Biomolecular Student Design Team designs and fabricates 3 dimensional nano structures. We use the predictable binding properties of DNA to fabricate structures entirely out of DNA. We are an undergraduate team that competes every year at the WYSS Institute of Harvard University.
Buckeye Aerial Robotics Team
We are a group of student engineers that annually compete in the International Aerial Robotics Competition. We hope that through our organization, students will gain valuable, real-world experience; learn new technical skills; and develop their experiences with project management and team-working skills. Most of all, we aim to have fun and learn something while doing it. The team is a multidisciplinary team composed mainly of graduate and undergraduate aerospace, computer science, electrical, and mechanical engineers whose goal is to compete in the annual International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC). The IARC consists of specific missions that vary every couple of years, depending on the level of completion by each team.
Buckeye Bullet
The Bullet Team aims to design and build the world's fastest electric landspeed car; the Buckeye Bullet 3. The goal of the Buckeye Bullet 3 is to set a world landspeed record over 400 mph.
Buckeye Electric Motorcycle Racing Team
BEMRT was founded by students in 2010 through the Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research in order to provide students experience with electric vehicles and to construct a fully operable electric motorcycle to compete in races on both the national and international level. The team has built its first motorcycle, the RW1, which set the speed record for electric motorcycles at the East Coast Timing Association at the Maxton Race Track with a speed of 112 mph, and then bested that time this summer with a new record of 144.5 mph. The team is now finishing design plans for RW2 to be built and tested this academic year with sights set on Isle of Man TT Zero races.
Design/Build/Fly
Design/Build/Fly is a group of engineering graduate and undergraduate students who are participating in the annual AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition. the competition consists of a design report, construction of the designed aircraft, and a fly-off at the competition in April.
E-Sports Initiative
E-Sports Initiative is a nonprofit organization that strives to galvanize recreational and competitive video game players, as well as the gaming industry, to raise money for local causes. We work to beneficially impact the community while maintaining a positive image of the industry and its consumers. The current goal of ESI is to empower local Columbus-area students to study STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related fields, and to enrich the educational experience of these students by directly funding affiliated programs.
EcoCar Challenge Team at the Ohio State University
The Ohio State EcoCAR team is part of a three year competition funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors. The goal of the competition is for each EcoCAR team to take a production vehicle and completely redesign it into a hybrid vehicle that gets better fuel economy, better emissions, but still maintain the vehicle’s original performance and consumer acceptability. The students on the EcoCAR team gain hands-on experience designing, fabricating, and testing mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems that can be found in a hybrid vehicle. In addition to the engineering aspects of the EcoCAR competition, the team also has business and outreach teams. The business team is responsible for managing the team’s finances and timeline, while the outreach team is responsible for creating events to educate college students, K-12 students, the general public, influencers and the media on the benefits of hybrid vehicles.
Engineers for Community Service
ECOS is a group of students who work to complete engineering-related community service projects both in the Columbus community and abroad. We're always open to new ideas. Examples of current projects include building wheel chair ramps, teaching computer classes to senior citizens, and working on sustainable development initiative in Honduras. The group also offers interested members the chance to focus on leadership and career development.
Engineers Without Borders
Engineers Without Borders is a nonprofit organization at Ohio State that is currently working on improving the health and sanitation in El Salvador. Our project focuses on designing and building latrines for individual families in the community. The latrines will prevent waste from contaminating the fresh water used for drinking, reducing the risk of serious disease within the town and surrounding areas. Upon completion, the latrines will provide a sustainable, continuous resource for the village to maintain sanitary conditions and improve overall health while making it possible for the village to eventually receive treated-water lines from San Pedro Puxtla.
Environmental Engineering Design Team
Every year a team of 4-6 students from OSU competes against teams from other Universities in Ohio Valley Student Conference. In 2009 the Environmental Engineering Design team successfully removed manganese from synthetic groundwater and placed 4th in the competition. In 2010 the competition will be held in the University of Akron.
FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
OSU FIRST Robotics works with Columbus-area high school teams competing in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition. We supply and train mentors while offering class credit for student involvement. We have the mixed offering of hands-on robotics and leadership experience as an mentor.
Formula Buckeyes
The Formula Buckeyes SAE race team consists of students from a variety of majors including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, and Art & Technology. Through this variety of talent and dedication, we fund, design, fabricate, and race a high performance, open wheeled race car. We compete against over 110 other colleges and universities at the Eastern (Detroit) and Western (Nebraska) Formula SAU competitions. The concept of the Formula SAE competition is to allow students to take part in vehicle research, development, and fabrication. FASE students are highly sought after in industry as a result of their real world problem solving experience gained while on the team.
Moonbuggy
Project team that builds a tandem bike to compete in NASA'a annual Moonbuggy Race. The buggies have to fit in a 4 foot cube, be human powered and operated by a male and female driver. The course is .7 miles long that includes many different obstacles.
Ohio State Chem-E-Car
Team members design and build a chemically powered vehicle for competition. The car is designed to be adjustable to account for an unknown distance and cargo distance and cargo mass that is different for each competition.
Ohio State Engineer Magazine
The Ohio State Engineer Magazine is a student publication dedicated to increasing the knowledge of Ohio State’s College of Engineering students within their chosen profession and on activities within the college by publishing informative articles, information on perspective employers, and reports on student events.
Ohio State Steel Bridge Team
A student team led by its team captain, designs and constructs a modular bridge to cross a twenty foot span. Teams are scored on stiffness, strength to weight ratio, construction speed, and economy.

OSU Concrete Canoe
The Concrete Canoe team designs, constructs, and races a concrete canoe against other teams in the Ohio Valley A.S.C.E conference.
Quarter Scale Tractor Student Design Team
Buckeye Pullers is a student organization at The Ohio State University that designs and builds a 1/4 scale tractor each year for the ASABE annual competition. The 2012 tractor, Brutus 2012, features two-wheel-drive, a 6 speed transmission, and one 31-horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine. At the 2011-2012 contest Brutus placed 18th out of 27 universities from the United States and Canada.
The International 1/4 Scale Tractor Student Design Competition is unique among student engineering-design contests in that it provides a realistic "360-degree" workplace experience. Teams of students are given a 31 hp Briggs & Stratton engine and a set of Titan tires. The design of their tractor is up to them. A panel of industry experts then judge each design for innovation, manufacturability, serviceability, maneuverability, safety, sound level, and ergonomics. Teams also submit a written design report in advance of the competition, and on-site, they must "sell" their design, in a formal presentation to industry experts playing the role of a corporate management team. Finally, machines are put to the test in a performance demonstration comprising four tractor pulls.
Through involvement in the competition, students gain practical experience in the design of drive train systems, tractor performance, manufacturing processes, analysis of tractive forces, weight transfer and strength of materials. In addition, they will also develop skills in communication, leadership, teamwork, fundraising and test & development
Rocketry Club
Our organization is designed to provide students from multiple disciplines with the opportunity to design and construct competitive rocket structures and their components. The team strives to offer students a practical application of their knowledge and to effectively simulate employment experience in the aerospace industry. We recognize the value of hands-on experience in the field of engineering, and serve to promote such an opportunity.
Solar Decathlon
The biannual Solar Decathlon Competition is a US Department of Energy sponsored competition that challenges national and international teams of college students to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy efficient solar-powered home. The competition is held on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Houses are judged in the following 10 areas: Architecture, Market Viability, Engineering, Lighting Design, Communications, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, Appliances, Home Entertainment, and Energy Balance.
Solar Education & Outreach
Solar Education and Outreach is a group of solar enthusiasts who want to spread the use of solar energy. Each year SEO sends a team of engineers to Haiti to install a photovoltaic system to provide electicity and lighting to a school. Another project the group works on is the installation of solar powered security lights in the neighborhoods surrounding campus.
South African Water Reuse Initiative
The formation of our group is inspired by a trip to South Africa with the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at the Ohio State University. The study abroad program was designed to provide an international educational and cultural experience in South Africa, with a focus on sustainable solutions for informal settlement.
Supermileage Vehicle Team
The goal is to design and manufacture a vehicle capable of meeting Supermileage SAE requirements for this competition. Goal of design is to create a vehicle maximizing mpg.
The Student Innovation Initiative
We hope to be able to support a seamless network, connecting exciting ventures, innovative research and passionate students together. We further hope that such a network is led by students who lead by example. This would exemplify success, make it visible and tangible as well as foster a peer-driven will too be enterprising.
Underwater Robotics Team
The Underwater Robotics Team provides an opportunity for students to apply engineering skills and techniques in the design and manufacturing of an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The team's annual goal is to culminate the year's work by competing in a national or international ROV competition. The Underwater Robotics Team aims to educate both students and the community interested in engineering, robotics, and remotely operated vehicles.
Urban Design Team
The Urban Design Competition provides an interdisciplinary learning experience for students. Teams provide an urban design and a financial feasibility strategy for a large scale real life site identified somewhere in the United States.

Amateur Radio Club
To encourage the amateur radio hobby among students, to promote the use of good engineering practices in our activities, to promote national and international friendships over the airwaves, and to serve the OSU and Columbus communities by providing radio communications for special events, and if necessary, disaster assistance.
American Academy of Environmental Engineers
The OSU Student Chapter is a professional organization committed to bringing together students with a common interest in Environmental Engineering, providing them with networking opportunities, and opportunities to engage in the community while serving the environment.
American Association of Airport Executives OSU Chapter
Founded in 1928, AAAE is the world's largest professional organization for airport executives, representing thousands of airport management personnel at public-use commercial and general aviation airports. AAAE's members represent some 850 airports and hundreds of companies and organizations that support airports. AAAE serves its membership through results-oriented representation in Washington, D....C. and delivers a wide range of industry services and professional development opportunities including training, meetings and conferences, and a highly respected accreditation program.
The purpose of the Ohio State University chapter is to provide students intereseted in airport operations or aviation management with an opportunity to associate with the airport executives in the industry.
This chapter is involved with many activities including airport tours, the AAAE national convention, community service, etc.
American Ceramic Society
Our purpose is to promote among our members an increasing knowledge of ceramic science. We are dedicated to promoting ceramic science to interested students in the College of Engineering along with potential future Ohio State engineering students. We also plan community service and social activities to provide interaction between the students, faculty, and staff in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
American Foundry Society
The purpose of this organization is to provide and promote knowledge of the metal casting industry and to cultivate relationships between industry leaders and student members.

American Institute of Architecture Students
A professional organization for architectural students. The OSU chapter seeks to broaden the education received by architectural students by providing out-of-class architecture related experiences, a link with the profession, community service, and a forum for student thought.
American Institute of Chemical Engineers
A professional organization for students interested in chemical engineering. The Student Chapter of AIChE offers students opportunities to interact with practicing professionals, faculty, and fellow students. American Nuclear Society
A professional organization for students interested in nuclear power, medical and other uses of radioactive materials, cleanup of contaminated nuclear sites, and radiation protection. Members attend and present educational programs, perform community service, and meet faculty and other students with similar interests at social functions. Members are encouraged to participate in regional and national meetings where they present papers and network with professionals in the nuclear field.

American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers
ASABE is a society for engineers interested in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Systems. The Ohio State Student Branch of ASABE offers students opportunities to interact with practicing professionals, faculty, and fellow students. Local members are encouraged to be members of the national organization and attend regional and national meetings.
American Society of Civil Engineers
We give civil engineering students the opportunity to network with professionals in their field and we bring in speakers bi-weekly to talk about professional civil engineering. We also fundraise and run competition teams such as steel bridge, concrete canoe and the surveying teams.
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, & Air Conditioning
ASHRAE has been at OSU for more than 25 years and encourages interest in the field of environmental control for people, plants, animals, and processes. ASHRAE helps prepare students for a career in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, which makes a tremendous contribution to the gross national product of the country, but is so diverse that it is almost unseen.

SCASLA, the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, is the social and professional organization of Landscape Architecture students. SCASLA focuses student life within the section by coordinating social events, speakers, mentoring programs, and design charrettes.

ASME is a professional society for mechanical engineers around the world. The OSU student chapter offers a wide variety of activities, which benefit students in the department of mechanical engineering. All undergraduates who are interested in mechanical engineering are eligible for membership.
American Welding Society
A professional organization with the goal of advancing the science, technology of welding engineering. Students have the opportunity to participate in technical meetings and plant visits. The chapter is a the focal point for social activities and career development, annually presents a Welding Open House to inform other students of opportunities in welding engineering, and staffs the OSU booth at the annual AWS Convention.
Association of Computing Machinery
One of the largest worldwide associations of computing professionals. Student members of ACM participate in programming contests, receive reduced rates on many ACM journals and magazines, attend special recruiting sessions, and visit local computing industries.
Association of Computing Machinery - Women
ACM-W's committee on Women in Computing celebrates, informs and supports women in computing, and works with a vast community of computer scientists, educators, employers and policy makers to improve working and learning environments for women.

Ecological Engineering Society
The purpose of this organization is to educate ourselves and others about ecological engineering and the potential for ecological engineering, to develop our potential as ecological engineers, to develop ecological engineering as a course of study at OSU and as an area of science in the broader community, and to influence local and global sustainability.
Engineers for a Sustainable World
Engineers for a Sustainable World is a student run organization that focuses on sustainability. We strive to make sustainability more visible on campus and we undertake projects that increase the sustainability of campus and the campus-area community. Our current project (Spring Semester, 2013) is building a solar powered food cart that will be used by campus-area food vendors, namely the Heirloom Café. Engineers' Council
The Engineers Council consists of officers, general members, and representatives of the student organizations within the College of Engineering. E-Council strives to establish a more general recognition for the College of Engineering, to develop a closer relationship to engineering students, and to bring the students in closer touch with practical engineering promotion. Annual events include Engineering Expo in the fall and ArchE Week in the spring, in addition to social and service events throughout the year. E-Council is the local chapter for OSU of the National Association of Engineering Student Councils (NAESC).
Human Factors and Ergonomics Society
The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Student Chapter at The Ohio State University is organized to serve the needs of students at The Ohio State University who have professional and/or research interests in human factors/ergonomics (HF/E). Its purpose is to promote and advance the understanding of the HF/E involved in the design, manufature, and use of machines, systems, environments, and devices of all kinds through the multidisciplinary interchange of knowledge and methodology in the relevant sciences, and engineering and design disciplines.
Institute for Operations Research & the Management Sciences
INFORMS is the primary organization for people involved in the theory and application of operations research methodology. Its mission is to improve decision-making through operations research, management science and the scientific method. INFORMS sponsors four major journals and annually holds two national meetings.
Institute of Biological Engineering
The Institute of Biological Engineering was established to encourage inquiry, application and interest in biological engineering as a science-based, application-independent discipline. Biological engineers possess the scientific knowledge of biology including its philosophical views, are proficient in the principles and practices of engineering, and are capable of integrating discoveries from multiple disciplines to design solutions for problems.
Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers
The purpose of this organization is to advance global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, enabling members' careers and promoting community world-wide. As the Ohio State branch, we look to help students create a network with faculty, other students, and engineers from industry.
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Graduate Student Body
The IEEE Graduate Student Body is a network of Graduate Students at The Ohio State University that are members of IEEE. Our group aims to increase collaboration and networking among graduate students within the various disciplines of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, and the greater academic and professional community.
Institute of Industrial Engineers
IIE is dedicated to the promotion of Industrial Engineering and the student members who invest in their future by joining IIE. There are numerous beneficial interactions with company representatives, the IIE Columbus Senior chapter, ISE faculty and students throughout the school year. During each quarter, members can also attend plant tours in order to raise awareness of the challenges and rewards of applying IE theories in real world environments. While promoting professional relationships and exposure to current and innovative IE applications, the Student Chapter also devotes a great deal of time promoting leadership and friendship within the organization.
Keramos
The origins of Keramos date to the formation of Beta Pi Kappa at The Ohio State University in 1902 to promote the interaction between and camaraderie among ceramic engineering professionals and students. Beta Pi Kappa subsequently merged in 1932 with a chapter of similar interests and intentions at the University of Illinois (formed as Keramos in 1914). The fraternity experienced growth throughout the next four decades to chapters at universities possessing ceramic engineering programs. There are currently 12 student chapters across the country actively promoting the ideals of Keramos and ceramic engineering.
Material Advantage
An umbrella organization of the Materials Science and Engineering department whose primary goal is to promote involvement between students and faculty which can lead to co-ops, internships, and part-time work. Activities include pizza parties, plant tours, and guest speakers.
National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers
NOBCChE at The Ohio State University is committed to the discovery transmittal, and application of knowledge in the fields of science and engineering. The mission of NOBCChE at OSU therefore is to build an eminent community of scientists and engineers by increasing the number and retention rates of minorities in these fields on the OSU campus. NOBCChE at OSU will achieve its mission through diverse programs designed to foster professional and social development and encourage students to pursue careers in science and technical fields. Also NOBCChE at OSU is focused on helping to create a conducive atmosphere for minority students to prosper. To this end, NOBCChE at OSU will establish educational partnerships with other organizations on campus, municipalities, businesses, industries, other institutions and organizations in the public and private sectors.
National Society of Black Engineers
The purpose of this organization is to increase the number of black culturally responsible engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
Open Source Club
A group of students advocating, advancing and supporting the use of free and open source software within the OSU community.
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
OSTEM provides support for GLBT and straight ally students, faculty and staff by educating peers and connecting students, faculty and staff with professionals in industry.
Phi Sigma Rho
Phi Sigma Rho is a social sorority for women in engineering, architecture, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry. We are a part of Ohio State’s Panhellenic Association, meaning we participate in all Greek Programming, such as Homecoming Week, Greek Week, and various leadership and philanthropy activities. We also have the benefit of being a professional organization. We are able to act as a support system academically in a male dominated field, and still have contact with alumnae who have field experience.
Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio
Dedicated to the advancement of the Profession of Land Surveyors at OSU, especially among surveying students. The chapter is directly involved with policy development at PLSO, through its delegates to the PLSO Executive. Various social activities are also held.
Reaching Engineers and Architects for Christ's Honor at OSU
REACH Ohio State is an interdenominational Christian student organization providing a spiritual resource for engineers and architects who desire to seek God. We have weekly Bible studies on campus as well as social events.
SERVitecture
SERVitecture in an Ohio State student oraginzation that encourage and promotes Knowlton School of Architecture student and faculty involvement through community service opportunities related to the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and City and Regional Planning. SERVitecture offers a wider variety of opportunities to students from design-build projects to participating in on-campus service events as a group to service/learning trips.
Society for Biological Engineering
With the launch of the Society for Biological Engineering, AIChE endeavors to be the professional association of choice for engineers and applied scientists with interest in the broad area of biological engineering. Organized by AIChE and prominent leaders in industry, academe, and government, the Society for Biological Engineering will work to expand the reaches of chemical engineering, build upon the interdisciplinary nature of biological engineering, and provide opportunities for successful connections. As the global leader of the chemical engineering profession, AIChE provides programs and services essential to you and your career. The Society for Biological Engineering will continue this legacy by developing new products and services that integrate biology and chemical engineering and are cost effective, relevant, and bring value to this broad community. As the discipline evolves, so will we. Our objective is to provide a professional home to those who will reshape and redefine the biological and chemical industries as we currently know them.
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers
Our goal is to encourage success within scientists and engineers of Asian heritage in the global business world, celebrate diversity on campuses and in the workplace, as well as provide opportunities for members to make contributions to their local communities.
Society of Automotive Engineers
The Society of Automotive Engineers is an OSU Student Chapter of SAE worldwide. The society will help students interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry to connect with the worlds largest automotive professional organization.
Society of Environmental Engineers
The Society of Environmental Engineers (SEE) combines national and professstional organizations (American Academy of Environmental Engineers, Water Environment Federation, and American Water Works Association) as a connection for student networking. SEE also works to create a friendlier and more casual atmosphere among fellow engineers through social activities such as educational field trips.
Society of Manufacturing Engineers
The Ohio State University chapter of SME fosters a wide student interest and participation in manufacturing engineering by providing leadership, programs, services, and instruction. SME assists students in developing skills and knowledge of manufacturing and provides social interaction between chapters members.
Society of Physics Students
Members are exposed to the many facets of the diverse field of physics: low temperature physics, high energy physics, chaos theory, astrophysics, etc. Through our society, members not only meet fellow students with whom they can share ideas and collaborate on homework, members also meet faculty who may provide research opportunities through jobs and/or project advisorship. While many of our activities focus on the academic aspects of physics, we also regularly host purely recreational events such as ultimate frisbee and sand volleyball games.
Society of Women Engineers
The Society of Women Engineers stimulates women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expands the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrates the value of diversity. This is a national organization and Ohio State's chapter takes part in a variety of professional development, social, and outreach events throughout the year.
Society of Women in Physics
The purpose of this organization is to support women interested in physics-- as an organization, we would like to create a supportive and welcoming environment for women currently interested in/enrolled in physics classes at Ohio State and we would also like to encourage the future participation of women in physics through outreach activities at local schools.

Structural Engineers Association of Ohio
SEAoO seeks to enhance the academic education of civil engineering students by offering seminars, site tours, job shadows, and company presentations. Students will learn about common industry practices and have several opportunities to network with professionals and potential employers. It is also our goal to create a stronger sense of community among students through service activities and social events.
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at The Ohio State University aims to attract and retain Hispanic students interested in engineering or architecture, provide academic support and professional development to the members, serves as a cultural and moral support group, promote the influence of Hispanic students in the university and in the community, and encourage young students in the community to become interested in STEM fields.
Theme Park Engineering Group
The purpose of the Theme Park Engineering Group is to enhance the knowledge of science, engineering, and creative design throughout the academic community through the utilization of experiences within the theme park industry. This may consist of, but is not limited to, collaboration with other organizations, companies, academic institutions, and research facilities.
Theta Tau Student Organization
As a professional engineering fraternity, Theta Tau combines the desirable features of general fraternities, technical societies, and honor societies to prepare its student members for the engineering profession. Originally founded in 1904 to presently consisting of over 50 chapters.
Triangle Fraternity
Triangle Fraternity is a National Greek Fraternity for men in the fields of engineering, mathematics, and the sciences. The Ohio State Chapter of Triangle excels in academics, service, and philanthropy, but also creates friendships between its brothers that last a life time. Triangle participates in many different activities in the Greek, Engineering, and Ohio State communities. Triangle sponsors the Insights Into Engineering Camp along with the College of Engineering and Phi Sigma Rho. Insights Into Engineering Camp provides an in depth look into the different majors within the College of Engineering for incoming undeclared engineering students.
Women in Aviation, International
The purpose of this organization is to serve as the local student chapter of the organization Women in Aviation International by supporting and encouraging women in all aviation interests, opportunities, and career fields.
Honor Societies
Alpha Epsilon
The purpose of Alpha Epsilon is to identify and distinguish Agricultural, Food, and Biological Engineers that have attained academic excellence and bring credit, honor and leadership to their profession.
Alpha Pi Mu (Industrial)
Alpha Pi Mu is The Ohio State University chapter of the national Alpha Pi Mu organization that recognizes the top junior and senior Industrial and Systems Engineers students for their academic achievement. Alpha Pi Mu works to increase professional development among members, promote networking, and encourage community and campus involvement through service and social events. Alpha Pi Mu also sponsors a Peer Mentor Program that matches underclassmen ISE students with upperclassmen students who advise them on various subjects including graduate school, academics, and careers.
Alpha Sigma Mu (Materials)
An honorary society for students majoring in metallurgy, materials science, or a related degree. To be selected students must be in the upper one-third of their junior, senior, or graduate class. Induction of new members occurs each April.
Chi Epsilon (Civil)
An honorary society for students majoring in civil engineering. Students are selected from the upper 1/3 of the junior and senior classes and must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of civil engineering courses. Activities include tutoring and holding social events that bring faculty and students together.
Eta Kappa Nu (HKN, Electrical)
An honorary society for students majoring in electrical engineering. Membership is by invitation only and members are selected from the top portion of the electrical engineering class. Activities include tutoring, hosting speakers from industry as well as student/faculty mixers.
Kappa Theta Epsilon (Co-op and Internship)
KTE is an organization that brings together students who have had experiences with internships and cooperative learning. Lead seminars on obtaining co-ops and internships, helping younger students. Network with several companies to assist in future job opportunities for members.
Lambda Psi (Minority)
An undergraduate honorary for underrepresented minorities within the College of Engineering. Members can be from any engineering discipline, but they must have received a 3.5 or higher GPA within two quarters prior to application. Activities include quarterly study marathons, professional development workshops, and community service.
Pi Tau Sigma (Mechanical)
An honorary society for students majoring in mechanical engineering. Members must be in the upper third of the senior class, or the upper fourth of the junior class. Inductions take place in the autumn and spring. Pi Tau Sigma's objectives are to foster high ideals in the engineering profession, stimulate and support departmental activities, promote professional welfare, and develop leadership and citizenship.
Sigma Gamma Tau (Aero/Astro)
An honorary society for students majoring in aeronautical/astronautical engineering. Members must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be in the upper third of the senior class or, the upper fourth of the junior class or, the upper fifth of the sophomore class. Members help with academic and extra-curricular activities within the aerospace field.
Sigma Pi Sigma (Physics)
Sigma Pi Sigma exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics; to encourage interest in physics among all students; to promote an attitude of service of its members toward their fellow students, colleagues, and the public; and to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. The main activities of the society involve outreach projects to enhance the teaching of science in middle and high schools in Ohio.
Tau Beta Pi
Tau Beta Pi is not just another honorary. It is very selective, and it is something that potential employers specifically look for. We encourage you to ask your advisor about Tau Beta Pi, or do your own research. Tau Beta Pi is the oldest and largest engineering honor society in existence, and it is the only engineering honorary society representing the entire engineering profession. Founded in 1885, to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their alma mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as undergraduates in the field of engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in the engineering colleges.

Texnikoi is a distinguished engineering honorary committed to recognize engineering students that present a well-rounded education. Members display extracurricular involvement, community service, as well as academic excellence in the College of Engineering.
