Pruchnicki elected Fellow of Royal Aeronautical Society
Integrated Systems Engineering Assistant Professor Shawn Pruchnicki was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, the highest level of its ranks. As the “only professional body dedicated to the aerospace community,” RAeS “exists to further the advancement of aeronautical art, science and engineering around the world.”
To receive this honor, a Fellow must have made “outstanding contributions in the profession of aeronautics, attained a position of high responsibility in the field and had long experience of high quality.”
Affiliated with the Center for Aviation Studies since 2012, Pruchnicki teaches classes in aviation safety, accident investigation, complex aircraft operation and human factors. In addition, he serves as the center’s academic research coordinator.
Recognized as an accident investigator and aviation safety expert, Pruchnicki also flew for 10 years as a captain with Comair Airlines and was extensively involved with both local and national safety work for the Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA). He participated in numerous accident investigations with the National Transportation Safety Board. He has been featured on CNN, USA Today, CNBC and CBC News, among others, and was an assistant producer and on-screen participant in the CNN Films documentary "Sole Survivor."
Pruchnicki received specific human factors training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, the National Transportation Safety Board Training Center in Washington D.C. and with Sidney Dekker, PhD, at Lund University in Lund, Sweden. He is a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI), Association for Aviation Psychology (APA) and Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES).
