It is with deep heartache that the Department of Engineering Education announces the loss of beloved Sr. Lecturer Michael (Mike) Parke, PhD.

Mike had a robust career both within industry and academia. He received his doctorate in Physical Oceanography from the University of California San Diego, worked in research at the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), and later taught at the University of Colorado and The Ohio State University, where he spent the last 24 years.

Mike's sincere care for his students and the department will be missed. He worked closely with a number of teaching assistants over the years, who he supported and encouraged in their academic careers.

“Mike’s commitment to the College of Engineering and its students was so obvious," recalls Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies Lisa Abrams. "He was willing to teach any class at any time.  He worked hard to connect with his students and his undergraduate teaching assistants through innovative teaching strategies, lighthearted jokes, and his never-ending smile. We will definitely miss his passion and commitment to students and his love for coffee.”

Mike’s family is accepting flowers at this time. The opportunity to plant a tree in his memory is also available.
