The Knowlton School is pleased to announce the creation of the Michael B. Cadwell Endowed Scholarship through a generous $1 million gift from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation. The Cadwell Scholarship will allow the school to further promote diversity and inclusion and expand access to all students.

The award will be available each year to Knowlton graduate or undergraduate students who are members of organizations at Ohio State seeking to advance the needs of populations historically underrepresented in higher education. The first recipients of the Cadwell Scholarship will be named in 2025.

Given discretion about how to direct the funds, Mike Cadwell chose to support ongoing efforts to expand access and diversity and inclusion at Knowlton. The choice marks his legacy as an educator by making design and planning education accessible to talented students from all backgrounds.

“In order for our disciplines to remain relevant, they must be more representative of the population at large and more active in communities beyond narrow professional affiliations," said Cadwell, the Walter H. Kidd Professor at Knowlton.

Cadwell was director of the Knowlton School from 2011 to 2020 and architecture section head from 1997 to 2004 and again from 2010 to 2011. He was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in 2015.
