Several departments within the college also placed among the top programs in the nation. The Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering maintained its rank at 11th among its peers. The Department of Integrated Systems Engineering placed 13th overall in the industrial/manufacturing specialty.

Other top 25 engineering programs at Ohio State include nuclear engineering (14), materials engineering (14), aerospace engineering (17), computer engineering (17), mechanical engineering (22) and electrical engineering (25). In the past two years, computer engineering has improved its standing by 12 places.

“Our rankings are affirmation of the quality and diversity of students we attract and subsequently prepare to excel in industry and academia,” said Dean David B. Williams.

While overall engineering graduate school rankings are derived from a combination of 10 quantitative and qualitative indicators, the publication’s engineering specialty rankings are based solely on peer assessments by department heads in each area. The peer assessment surveys for the specialty area rankings were conducted in fall 2017.

Last fall, U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best Colleges rankings listed Ohio State's engineering undergraduate academic program 16th among public universities whose highest degree is a doctorate.
