Engineering professor receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar award

Halil Sezen, professor of civil, environmental and geodetic engineering, was recently awarded the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant by the U.S. Department of State.

Sezen will be travelling to Doha, Qatar on two or three separate visits over the next two years and will be affiliated with Qatar University during his Fulbright.

His research, titled “Retrofit of Deteriorating and Vulnerable Infrastructure using Fiber Reinforced Polymers,” will involve investigation of fiber reinforced polymer and shape memory alloy materials for retrofit and other structural engineering applications.

In order to conduct his Fulbright research, Sezen will collaborate with host researchers and utilize the state-of-the-art material-testing laboratories at Qatar University.

The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program. Designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries, it provides grants for students and scholars to study, teach or conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
