Faculty and Staff Awards and Honors

Awards and honors earned by faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Knowlton School of Architecture from November 2014 through January 2015.

Rita Alevriadou, associate professor of biomedical engineering and cardiovascular medicine, was elected to the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Board of Directors. Richard T. Hart, chair and professor of biomedical engineering, assumed his new role as president of the BMES board in October. 

Betty Lise Anderson, professor of electrical and computer engineering, was elected Fellow of the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) in recognition of her significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics and imaging. 

Stephen E. Bechtel, professor emeritus of mechanical and aerospace engineering, published the book, Fundamentals of Continuum Mechanics with co-author Robert L. Lowe, a PhD candidate in mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Robert Brodkey and Jacques Zakin, emeritus faculty of chemical and biomolecular engineering, were welcomed into the inaugural class of Ohio State’s Emeritus Academy. They join an elite group of 71 emeritus faculty members who represent just three percent of the total number of emeritus professors at The Ohio State University.

Chi-Chih Chen, research associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Fernando Teixeira, professor of electrical and computer engineering, were elected IEEE Fellows

Yuejie Chi, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering and biomedical informatics, will receive part of the $16.6 million in grant funds awarded via the Air Force Office of Scientific Research through its Young Investigator Research Program.

Stuart Cooper, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, was re-elected for a three-year term as a council delegate for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Section on Engineering. 

Chris Gecik, design engineer in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Biological Engineering, won the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences’ Above and Beyond - Innovation Award.

Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska, chair and professor of civil, environmental and geodetic engineering, was elected president of the Institute of Navigation (ION) for 2015-17. 

Levent Guvenc, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). 

Douglas Kniss, professor of biomedical engineering, and obstetrics and gynecology, and Samir Ghadiali, associate professor of biomedical engineering, were awarded $100,000 from the March of Dimes to lead advance preterm birth research.

Blaine Lilly, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has been elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).  

Robert Livesey, professor of architecture and architecture section head, was named one of the 30 Most Admired Educators for 2015 by the publication DesignIntelligence. 

Andre Palmer, interim chair and professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, was elected to the College of Fellows of The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). 

P. Sadayappan, professor of computer science and engineering was elected an IEEE Fellow

Ramteen Sioshansi, associate professor of integrated systems engineering, was selected by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to participate in a working group on financing renewable energy development in ASEAN and East Asian countries.

David B. Williams, Monte Ahuja Endowed Dean’s Chair and dean of the College of Engineering, was appointed to the Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee

Jessica Winter, associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering as well as biomedical engineering, was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
