Professor and Chair of Materials Science and Engineering Rudolph G. Buchheit has been named the College of Engineering’s new associate dean for academic affairs and administration, effective September 1.

Professor Bucheit’s successful 8-year term as Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) chair will conclude on August 31, although he will remain active in the department through teaching, research and advancement. MSE Professor Mike Mills will assume duties as interim chair. MSE Professor Peter Anderson will serve as associate chair. A process has begun to identify a permanent chair.

In his new role, Bucheit will be responsible for the administrative operation of the college and its auxiliary functions. His focus areas will include planning, orderly development and administration to ensure the success and effectiveness of the college. He will work with faculty and unit leaders on tenure, promotion and the hiring of new faculty.

Bucheit joined the faculty in the Fontana Corrosion Center in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Ohio State in 1997. He is a fellow of NACE International, and past chair of its research committee. He is also a fellow of the Electrochemical Society, and is the incoming chair of the executive committee for the society’s corrosion division. He is the recipient the College of Engineering’s Stanley E. Harrison Faculty Award and two-time recipient of the Charles Ellison MacQuigg Award for Outstanding Teaching.
