The Ohio State College of Engineering is one of the nation's top engineering programs, according to the U.S. News & World Report's 2014 edition of Best Colleges released this week. The annual issue ranked Ohio State's engineering undergraduate academic program 14th among public universities whose highest degree is a doctorate, up from 17th last year. Among all private and public universities, the program climbed four spots to 26th.

“Constantly improving and enhancing the undergraduate experience is a priority,” said College of Engineering Dean David Williams. “We’re pleased with the improvement in ranking, but we’re confident that our world-class faculty, bright students, and emphasis on hands-on education will propel us higher in the near future.”

Three Ohio State engineering academic discipline programs also received top rankings: 10th among biological/agricultural programs (Dept. of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering); 14th among materials engineering programs (Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering); and 17th among industrial/manufacturing programs (Dept. of Integrated Systems Engineering).

The U.S. News rankings of the undergraduate engineering programs accredited by ABET, formerly known as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, are based solely on the peer judgments of deans and senior faculty who rated each program they are familiar with on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished).
