The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame honors Ohio women who emerge as leaders in their fields, often against great odds, with courage, determination and compassion. Mary Juhas, Associate Dean for Diversity and Outreach at Ohio State’s College of Engineering, has been selected because she has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to excellence, achievement and service to others.

The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 1978 by the Women’s Division of The Ohio Bureau of Employment Services (now part of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) to publicly recognize the many outstanding contributions Ohio women have made to their state and nation. The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame serves as a daily tribute to these women who are an ongoing source of pride and inspiration for all Ohioans – especially our state’s next generation of leaders. The records of the members are held by the Ohioana Library where they are available to the public for research purposes.

Mary Juhas is Associate Dean for Diversity and Outreach at Ohio State’s College of Engineering, where she initiates and oversees diversity-related activities in the college at the undergraduate, graduate, faculty and staff levels. Her responsibilities include successful recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups in engineering, including women, minorities and persons with disabilities. She is a co-principal investigator and former program director of the university’s Project CEOS, Comprehensive Equity, a National Science Foundation-sponsored program. She is the chair of the President’s and Provost’s Council on Women. In addition, Juhas is a member of the board of directors of WEPAN, Women in Engineering ProActive Network, and chair of the Women in Materials Science and Engineering Committee of TMS, The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society. Juhas holds the appointment of a clinical associate professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She received her doctorate in materials science and engineering from Ohio State in1989 and a master’s degree in metallurgy and materials science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1980.

The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame has played an important role in celebrating and preserving the current and historic contributions of Ohio’s women. To date, more than 400 women have received the prestigious distinction of being inducted into the OWHF. Mary will be inducted to the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame on Thursday, August 25th at the Ohio Statehouse Atrium at 2 p.m. This annual event is free and open to the public.
