Rosemary L.M. Hill, director of The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering Career Services, was recently named one of the National Association of Colleges and Employer’s external reviewers.

Each reviewer evaluates the creation, maintenance and delivery of career programs and services across the country as well as help staff in targeting programs to develop, maintain and expand. The office is a very select position held by only 34 of 7,500 NACE members.

Hill earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College and her master’s degree in career counseling/higher education from Northwestern University. She has been active in the career services and cooperative education field for 30 years. Since 1999, Hill has served as the director of the engineering career services program at Ohio State and has used her experience to improve and expand the program.

Under Hill’s direction, both undergraduate and graduate student use of the office has increased dramatically. More than 70 percent of undergraduates report completion of an internship or co-op experience before graduation. In addition, graduate and doctoral student use has more than doubled and 87 percent of graduates now register with the office. More than three quarters of those employed by graduation report that an ECS service was their employment source.

Hill’s leadership positions have encompassed a wide variety of NACE roles, including leader of the board of directors, two terms as chair of the NACE Principles and Practices committee, and service on the Leadership Advancement Program Committee. She has also been active with the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers and was elected to the executive board three times. Hill received the Paquette Distinguished Leadership Award from the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers in recognition for her “consistent and significant leadership contributions.” In addition to multiple committee roles, she led the Engineering College Group for four terms. She also served two terms on the executive board of the Ohio Cooperative Education Association while directing the Engineering Co-op and Internship Program.
