Faculty Emeritus Named One of Top 25 Airline Industry Leaders in the World

Posted:
Nawal Taneja, faculty emeritus, aviation, was named by Airline Business magazine as one of the top 25 airline industry leaders in the world over the past 25 years. Voted by members of the industry, he is the only academic to make the list, and he joins impressive company including Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, Singapore Airlines retiring CEO Chew Choon Seng and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Transportation John Byerly. The article features the insights on the airline industry from each of the leaders.

After Taneja was chosen as one of the 25 leaders, he was asked to give his insights about the future of the airline industry. Taneja says that in order for the airline industry to survive new technologies, services and innovative thinking must be incorporated into the airline business model. Without that evolution, the airline industry cannot and will not survive.

“The changes in the airline business model during the past 25 years will pale against the next 25,” Taneja says.

Taneja holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of London, a master’s degree in air transportation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree in business administration from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He has served as The Ohio State University Department of Aviation chair as well as an associate professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics for MIT. Taneja has also written five books examining the airline industry and its future.
