Weeks of late nights building, testing, repairing and rebuilding paid off for a team of Ohio State food, agricultural and biological engineering students when their tractor pulled away from the field in the Quarter Scale Tractor competition June 6 in Peoria, Ill. The Ohio State Team X, made up of students Scott Praither, Greg Gehret, Andrew Klopfenstein and Chris Gehret, was named the 2010 International Champions of the competition.

In the months leading up to the competition, each team designs and builds a tractor using 16-Hp engines provided by Briggs & Stratton and tires donated by Goodyear. The tractors can weigh no more than 850 pounds. Hosted annually by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, freshman and sophomores from 25 schools across the United States and Canada competed in the event. Ohio State also earned first place for teamwork.
