Eric Cole, a sophomore in materials science and engineering, received the $6,450 Hans Schmoldt Scholarship in Cathodic Protection from the NACE Foundation. He plans to pursue a career in materials testing.

Praphun Naenna, a doctoral student in electrical and computer engineering, received the Ohio State University Presidential Fellowship for his work in microwave altimetry to support his work in 2010.

Computer science and engineering undergraduate Renee Tischler received a Marianna Russell Technology Grant to attend the 2009 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing in Palo Alto, Calif. The grant is provided to facilitate professional development for women in the technology field.

Steven Waites, a chemical engineering and East Asian studies major, has been named a 2010 Boren Scholar, an award that provides up to $20,000 each to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. The award, from the National Security Education Program, will support Waites in his study of the Korean language at Yonsei University in South Korea.

Kelly Young, a master’s student in civil and environmental engineering and geodetic science, received a $2,500 AISC/U.S. Steel Scholarship, which is given to only one person in the country each year.
