Obama's Energy Advisor to Speak at Ohio State's Moving Ahead 2010 Conference

Posted:

Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change, will present the Obama Administration’s energy policy priorities at Moving Ahead 2010: Sustainable Transportation Solutions for the 21st Century, to be held May 2-4 at The Ohio State University. Browner, who joined the Administration in January 2009, served as EPA director under Pres. Clinton and is a successful businesswoman with a background in environmental protection, law and management consulting.

Browner will appear at the conference on Tuesday, May 4. Her address, "Achieving U.S. Energy Independence," will provide details of the Obama Administration’s agenda for making the U.S. more energy independent while igniting new opportunities for economic prosperity and development.

Moving Ahead 2010 aims to bring together industry leaders, policymakers and researchers to analyze how advanced transportation technologies, fuels and strategies will impact job creation, environmental protection and national security. The event is co-hosted by Clean Fuels Ohio, a statewide nonprofit organization and designated U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Coalition.

In addition to Browner, Moving Ahead 2010 has announced four more newly confirmed speakers:

  • John Víera, Director of Sustainable Business Strategies, Ford Motor Co.

  • Jolene Molitoris, Director, Ohio Department of Transportation

  • Tom Murphy, Senior Resident Fellow, Urban Land Institute

  • Dr. Robert E. Martínez, Vice President for Business Development, Norfolk Southern Corp.

Víera will share his views on 21st century transportation trends at the Moving Ahead 2010 opening reception on Sunday, May 2. Molitoris and Murphy will participate in a provocative discussion on Monday, May 3, about taking action now to transition our transportation systems for long-term economic, national security and environmental sustainability.

Martínez will speak Tuesday, May 4, about the key policy actions needed to position local governments, states and the country to move toward economic prosperity.

Transportation accounts for more than 30 percent of America’s energy demand and more than 60 percent of the oil we use. Moving Ahead 2010 will focus on the full range of transportation technologies, including automobile, truck, rail, aviation and transit systems, as well as other strategies that can move the U.S. ahead to a better transportation future.

The complete agenda of activities can be viewed at MovingAhead2010.com.

Moving Ahead 2010 will take place in the Ohio Union Conference Center on the campus of The Ohio State University. A top-10 national public research university, Ohio State ranks second in industry-sponsored research and is home to one of the nation’s oldest and most successful transportation research centers. The university has an unmatched ability to conduct comprehensive energy and environmental research drawing upon more than 300 researchers from the colleges of engineering; food, agriculture and environmental sciences; and arts and sciences. Ohio was identified as one of the nation’s top new energy job-creating states in a recent study by Pew Charitable Trust.
