New program one of only 35 offered in the United States

The Knowlton School of Architecture has announced that it will offer an undergraduate degree in City and Regional Planning program, one of only 35 undergraduate planning degree programs in the United States. City and Regional Planning is a dynamic profession that works to improve the welfare of people and their communities by creating more convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient and attractive spaces for present and future generations. Good planning helps create communities that offer better choices for where and how people live, helps communities to envision their future, and finds the right balance of new development and essential services, environmental protection and innovative change.

“We are so excited to be offering the new undergraduate program,” said Jennifer Evans-Cowley, Section Head, City and Regional Planning. “We are looking forward to welcoming our first class this autumn. Planning is a dynamic field that is gaining attention with the increasing popularity of sustainability and healthy communities.”

Students interested in City and Regional Planning should have a strong college preparatory background including math, science, written and spoken communication, and social science. The goal of Ohio State’s City and Regional Planning curriculum is to develop professional competency in the art and science of planning, design, plan implementation, communication, history/theory, and professional practice. Graduates of the program are able to creatively combine planning principles, social and environmental consciousness, and communication to address people’s relationship to their community.
