Places to Live
Fremont, Wallingford, Green Lake are all great neighborhoods with lots to do and are centrally located. However, they are not too loud and are a great fit for people in their upper 20s or older.
Ballard has a ton of bars and restaurants. It’s located far away from the highway so the commute to the north and south of the city as well as downtown is good, but anywhere else and you are looking at a 10 minute commute to the highway alone.
Capitol Hill is a great neighborhood for young professionals who are looking for a vibrant night life and diversity. The neighborhood is also centrally located.
Columbia City is located south of city. There is a light rail stop making access to downtown, Capitol Hill, University of WA, and the West Seattle airport a breeze. The neighborhood tends to be more affordable and has numerous bars and restaurants on the water. The only downside is that it feels more secluded from the city and there is usually a decent amount of traffic on the bridge into and out of the city every day.Fremont, Wallingford, Green Lake (great neighborhoods with lots to do, but not overly loud and fairly centrally located). Especially good for people in their upper 20s+.
Tips for Getting Around
Public Transit: Get an ORCA card! The bus and Link light rail are amazing. Many parts of the city are difficult or expensive to park in so its recommended to take public transit whenever possible.
Biking: There are many dedicated bike lanes and trails throughout the city as biking is quite popular.
Airports:
- SeaTac is the main airport, you can get anywhere from here.
- Paine Field is located in Everett and has a handful of west coast options on Alaska Airlines.
Annual Activities and Festivals to Attend
Seafair – a festival every August on Lake Washington. The festival includes lots of boats, boat races, and the Blue Angels perform.
Fremont Solstice Parade - people paint their naked bodies and ride bikes in Fremont. The parade is something you should check out at least once.
Cherry Blossoms - on University of Washington campus in the spring.
Capitol Hill Block Party - a musical festival in July.
Weekend farmer's markets - Most neighborhoods in Seattle have one. Ballard in particular has an excellent one.
Top 3 Must Dos When You First Arrive to Seattle
Pike Place Market – Seattle’s original farmers market which was established in 1907.
Columbia Center - Visit the Sky View Observatory on a clear day for an amazing 360 degree view of the city. This facility offers better view and cheaper price than the Space Needle.
Take a hike - Easy access to amazing hikes within 1 hour of the city. Check out the list linked above.

Vibrant city that's also so close to amazing nature (Puget Sound, Lake Washington, Mt. Rainier, Olympic National Park, Cascades). Even when it's gloomy you still get beautiful views of the water, mountains and evergreen trees.
TONS of AMAZING breweries!

You can fly to London or Tokyo in the same amount of time
It stays light until 10pm in the summer
It rarely snows in Seattle, but it's super easy to drive into the mountains to access snow.
