Congratulations! You are going to be a Buckeye in the College of Engineering!
In just a few weeks you will be starting your academic career in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. We know how excited you are to get started and to be successful.
The first step to success at Ohio State starts at Summer Orientation during which you will learn many things about the university and the College of Engineering. Most importantly, when you leave you will have your schedule of your first set of classes. In order to schedule the courses most appropriate for you, it is important you come to summer orientation prepared.
Preparing for Orientation
Orientation is the first step on your journey as a student at The Ohio State University. It is a fun and exciting opportunity to experience first-hand what Ohio State is all about. You will have the chance to learn more about academics and student life, meet advisors from your major, and have a chance to interact with fellow incoming students. During orientation you can expect to:
- Learn more about your academic program (major)
- Learn about Buckeye traditions and become familiar with life as a Buckeye
- Schedule your first set of classes
- Meet faculty, advisors, and current Ohio State students
- Interact with fellow incoming students
- Ask questions!
Prior to your orientation, you will need to do some prep work. During the month of May, you will gain access to the Orientation Preparation - Engineering site. Hosted on CARMEN, Ohio State's course management system, this online module will walk you through important pre-orientation tasks such as math and skills assessments, AP and dual enrollment credit review, and course scheduling tutorials. Completing the Orientation Preparation - Engineering site will ensure that your orientation experience goes smoothly and you have a clear picture of your first set of classes at Ohio State.
Please note: the Orientation Preparation - Engineering site is a separate preparation module than the University Orientation Guidebook. The University Orientation version will provide information that is important to all new Buckeyes. Make sure to review information on both sites before attending!
In late May you will receive an email—sent to your Buckeyemail account—inviting you to the Orientation Preparation - Engineering site. Check your Buckeyemail regularly, as this will be the primary link between you and the university. To activate your Ohio State username, which is used for your email, please visit my.osu.edu. If you experience problems related to your username, contact the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Support Center by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by phone at 614-688-HELP, or by TDD at 614-688-8743.
