Scholarship/Financial Aid Applications and Deadlines for Undergraduate Students Academic Year 2010-11
Online Resources
Please read before completing your scholarship 2010-2011 application
All currently enrolled students who wish to apply for College of Engineering and engineering departmental scholarships must complete the Ohio State Application for Special Scholarships available on-line at the Student Financial Aid website. The College of Engineering will no longer accept paper applications.
Please read the following helpful hints before completing your application for scholarships. The directions for using the website are listed below.
Helpful Hints
Be prepared to answer a variety of questions in the following areas: demographic, enrollment, cumulative grade point average, total credit hours completed, work experience, and areas of interest (such as defense work, etc.) You will need to answer a wide variety of questions which may not seem relevant to you, but keep in mind that the application is designed to match students with as many scholarship opportunities as possible.
Prepare a Personal Statement before starting the application. You will have the opportunity to cut and paste the information into the application. Please note that there is a 4000 character limit. The quality of the essay is a significant factor in determining scholarship recipients. The essays should be well organized, concise, and provide the scholarship committee with relevant information about the student that is not already included on the application form or that might need further explanation.
Please make sure that you certify the application at the end of the process. It is critical that you complete this section. Also, please note that after you certify and submit the application you cannot go back and make any changes to the application. Upon successful certification and submission of the application, you will receive an email confirmation.

Scholarship Applications and Deadlines for Undergraduate Students Academic Year 2010-11
Academic-based Scholarships Only
The College of Engineering and engineering departments no longer have separate scholarship applications. Beginning with 2010-11, all COE and departmental scholarships are available on the Ohio State Application for Special Scholarships. To maximize your potential results from this application simply enter the required biographical information and a Personal Statement by the March 1, 2010 deadline. You will receive confirmation once your application is submitted. Your information will be compared to eligibility criteria for all scholarship accounts, so you do not need to apply for individual scholarships. The Engineering Scholarship Committee will make selections and notify recipients in late Spring Quarter.
For engineering majors and pre-majors, the most important part of the application is the Personal Statement section. You should use the Personal Statement to tell us about your specific interests, experiences and goals as they relate to your current engineering studies and future engineering career. For example, your interests could be as general as manufacturing or consulting. An ECE major might be interested in power distribution or circuits. If there is a specific company that you are interested in, be sure to mention that. Discussion of classes and internship/co-op experience is also appropriate. While most of the statement should focus on engineering, it is also appropriate to discuss your financial situation. If there are financial hardships, please provide details.
Virtually all of our scholarship accounts are awarded based on academic performance here at OSU. Some of our accounts have additional criteria such as campus leadership, service activities or county of residence – but academics is the primary focus. A CPHR of at least 3.50 should be high enough to receive funding. Those with 3.4, 3.3 or 3.2 are on the bubble, where funding is possible but not certain. There is one account, the Herbert L. Johnston Fund, where the first preference is not grades but instead the number of hours worked during the academic year. The intent here is to acknowledge full-time students who work copious amounts of time and who have exhibited some academic potential (CPHR 2.5 - 3.0). So please use the Personal Statement on the application to let us know how many hours you work and the impact on your academic performance.
International students are eligible to apply for engineering scholarships (both departmental and College), as most of our funds are available to all engineering majors and pre-majors regardless of nationality. Please note - scholarships for international students are usually small and range from around $500 to $1,500 per year.
Need-based Aid
To be considered for College of Engineering need-based scholarships, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the federal processors by March 1 in addition to the Ohio State Application for Special Scholarships (works for all College of Engineering and engineering departmental scholarships) as described above. It is important to apply by the March 1 deadline, even if it means estimating the income information reported on your FAFSA. Ohio State’s Office of Student Financial Aid is recommending that all students file the FAFSA on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
