OSTEP

Ohio’s Science & Engineering Talent Expansion Program (OSTEP) is a partnership between OSU, Columbus State Community College, Washington State Community College, and Stark State College of Technology to increase the number of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates.

In June 2009, OSTEP will commence its first Summer Bridge Program for entering freshmen at OSU. This National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored program is designed to help students transition more easily into the freshman year in STEM majors and give them a head start in both the academic and non-academic sides of the first-year experience at The Ohio State University.

The Summer Bridge Program consists of two major components:

  • A six-week academic component (June 22 - July 31, 2009), in which participants attend rigorous classes that parallel the freshman science, technology, engineering, and math curriculum at OSU as well as professional development activities.
  • A six-week career preview components (approximately August 3 - September 14, 2009) that affords participants an opportunity to work in paid internship positions with STEM professionals at some of the nation’s leading companies, government agencies, and with OSU STEM faculty. Due to current economic conditions, we may not be able to find paid internships for every participant. However, every effort will be made to do so.

Students who are accepted into the Summer Bridge Program must live on the OSU campus during the academic component. Room and board will be provided. OSTEP will also provide participants with an OSU student mentor who will be available throughout the undergraduate years for academic and career advice.

The new deadline for completing the online application is Friday, June 12, 2009 at 5 p.m. EST.
Decisions regarding choice of participants will be e-mailed by Monday, June 15, 2009 at 5 p.m. EST. We look forward to hearing from you.
If you cannot scan and upload your transcripts online, we can obtain them from the OSU Undergraduate Admissions Office.
