Dr. Diane E. Albert was named an Ohio State University Women in Engineering Pioneer at the "Honoring Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics" ceremony on May 11 in Columbus, OH.
Albert, an intellectual property attorney in Albuquerque, NM, has had a distinguished career as a scientist and leader at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and in her local community. At Los Alamos, she served as a research scientist on the Materials Research & Processing Science Group and as team leader of the Mechanical Testing Team of the Materials Technology: Metallurgy Group. She has been active in empowering young girls to consider choosing careers in science and technology, and has committed time and expertise to Los Alamos Women in Science, where she has led numerous science and engineering workshops for students and teachers in Los Alamos and Albuquerque.
A graduate of the Ohio State University with degrees in Metallurgical Engineering and Math Education, Albert was named the 1997 Herbert Holloman Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering in Washington, D.C. She has received numerous honors, including the Governor’s Award for New Mexico Outstanding Women (2003) and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Ohio State’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
