Denman Forum Honors Engineering Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate students in the College of Engineering earned top honors at the university’s 11th annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum.
The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum provides a means for undergraduate students to share their research with members and friends of the Ohio State community; recognizes the significant contributions to research by Ohio State undergraduates; and facilitates exchange between students, faculty and the public.
Winners in the engineering category at the forum, listed with their projects and advisors, were:
- First place: Bethany Frew, food, agricultural and biological engineering, “Use of Landfill Leachate to Generate Electricity in Microbial Fuel Cells,” Associate Professor Ann Christy
- Second place: Imogen Price, chemical engineering, “Development of Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Technique with Emphasis on Utilization of By-products and Life Cycle Analysis,” Professor L.S. Fan
- Jason Meyer, mechanical engineering, “Intake Air Charge Prediction in Modern Gasoline Engines with Cam Phasing,” Professor Yann Guezennec
- Melissa Rubal, welding engineering, “Accuracy of Material Modeling Software for Predicting Carbide Formation in Nickel-base Alloys,” Professor John Lippold
In the art/architecture category, the first place award went to Zakery Snider, architecture, for “Material Nature: Form Development Through Surface.” His advisor is Associate Professor Beth Blostein in the Knowlton School of Architecture.
University President Karen Holbrook has established undergraduate research opportunities to be a focus of her administration. The Denman Forum featured research by 324 undergraduate students in categories of agriculture and environmental science, art/architecture, biological sciences, business/social and behavioral sciences, education/speech and hearing science, engineering, health professions - clinical, health professions - laboratory/cellular, humanities, mathematical and physical sciences and psychology.
