Hosted by the Women in Engineering Program at The Ohio State University, the Future Engineers Summer Camp (FESC) is a five-day, non-residential summer program for young women who will be entering the 8th grade in the fall following the camp. Participants in FESC 2009 will explore concepts in engineering and science through a variety of fun, hands-on activities led by Ohio State engineering faculty and graduate students. Participants will also visit several area businesses and corporations to learn more about what engineers do in the “real world.” FESC 2009 is made possible through the generous support of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.
FESC 2009 will run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm each day, beginning on Monday, August 3rd, and ending on Friday, August 7th. The camp will be held on Ohio State’s Columbus campus.
Except for a nonrefundable application fee of $25.00, FESC 2009 is available free of charge to all participants. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to cover the cost of the application fee. For more information about scholarships, please contact Ruth Friedman at the phone number or e-mail address given below.
Admission to FESC 2009 is competitive and will be based on an applicant’s personal statement, a teacher recommendation from the applicant’s current math or science teacher, and a copy of the applicant’s most recent grade report for the 2008-09 school year.
Applications are welcome from any female student who is interested in engineering and science and who will be entering the 8th grade in the fall of 2009. Applications will be accepted through April 1, 2009, and admissions decisions will be mailed out by May 15, 2009.
To begin the application process, please complete and submit the online registration form, which is available by clicking on the "Register Online" link that appears at the top and bottom of this page. Once you have submitted the online registration form, a confirmation screen should appear with your confirmation number and additional information about the event (including how to pay your $25.00 application fee, how to submit a copy of your most recent grade report, and how to access and submit the FESC 2009 Personal Statement and Teacher Recommendation Forms). You should also receive an e-mail containing this information.
If you do not see the confirmation screen and/or receive a confirmation e-mail, please contact Ruth Friedman at the phone number or e-mail address given below. Your application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed until your application fee, grade report, personal statement, and teacher recommendation have been received.
