Registration for the 2009 Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) is now full. The waitlist for this event is also full.
If you would like to have your daughter’s name added to our interest list for the 2010 IGED event, please e-mail your name, your e-mail address, your daughter’s name, and your daughter’s grade and school to Ruth Friedman at friedman.194@osu.edu. Ruth will add your daughter’s name to our interest list for the 2010 event so that next winter, you should receive an e-mail a week or so before the online registration becomes available.
IGED is a one-day event hosted by The Ohio State University’s Women in Engineering Program (WiE). Designed for girls in grades 3-6 who are interested in learning more about engineering and engineering-related careers, this year’s IGED will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, on Ohio State’s Columbus campus. IGED 2009 is made possible through the generous support of the Ashland Corporation
IGED participants will spend the day engaged in a variety of fun, hands-on activities led by Ohio State female engineering students. In addition, participants will hear from industry professionals and Ohio State engineering students and staff about the career opportunities available to persons with an undergraduate degree in engineering.
IGED 2009 Parent Program: As part of this year’s program, we will be offering a series of engineering-related activities and panel discussions for participants’ parents/guardians. The Parent Program is optional--parents/guardians do not have to attend the event--and will run concurrently with the program for students, beginning at 9:30 am and ending at 2:30 pm. Due to space limitations, only one parent/guardian may attend the Parent Program per student.
Lunch will be provided for all participating girls and their parents/guardians at the event. In addition, those parents/guardians who attend the Parent Program will join their daughters for lunch and for the opening and closing sessions. During the remainder of the day, the girls and their parents/guardians will be engaged in a separate series of activities.
Please note that advance registration is required for both girls and their parents/guardians to attend this event. A nonrefundable student registration fee of $15.00 is required for each participant in grades 3-6. There is no registration fee required for parents/guardians who register to attend the event. However, please note that we are only able to accommodate one parent/guardian per student participant.
A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to cover the cost of the student registration fee. For more information about these scholarships, please contact Ruth Friedman at the phone number or e-mail address given below.
Registration will take place on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we encourage anyone interested in attending this event to register as soon as possible. Registration usually fills up quickly, and we are only able to admit 200 girls (plus one parent/guardian per student) to this event.
Once you have completed and submitted the online registration form, a confirmation screen should appear with your confirmation number and additional information about the event (including how to pay the nonrefundable $15.00 student registration fee). You should also receive an e-mail containing this information.
If you do not see the confirmation screen and/or receive a confirmation e-mail, please contact Ruth Friedman at the phone number or e-mail address given below to make sure that your registration was accepted through the online system.
Please note that your registration will be considered incomplete until your student registration fee has been received.
If you are unable to register because the program is full and you would like to have your daughter’s name added to the waitlist, please e-mail your name, your phone number, your e-mail address, your daughter’s name, and your daughter’s grade and school to Ruth Friedman at friedman.194@osu.edu. In addition, please don’t hesitate to contact Ruth by phone at 614-247-7936 if you have any questions or would like additional information about the event.
For more information, or questions regarding this event please contact Ruth Friedman. This event is sponsored by Women In Engineering.
